December 15 2011, 7pm
New Winter Pro Athlete Team Features Four Top Riders; Pantech to Title Sponsor Killington Event
ATLANTA – Dec. 15, 2011 — Pantech Wireless, Inc. (PWI), the U.S.-based subsidiary of Pantech Group, continues their sponsorship of Dew Tour by unveiling their winter “Team Pantech” riders, consisting of four of the world’s most recognized athletes in skiing and snowboarding. Sarah Burke, Hannah Teter, J.J. Thomas and Torin Yater-Wallace will compete on behalf of the company in the highly anticipated winter Dew Tour events. Team Pantech athletes will also participate in brand-building initiatives and regularly appear on-site, at the Pantech Lodge on Dew Tour grounds, to meet fans, pose for pictures and sign autographs. Additionally this week, Pantech announced its title sponsorship of the second stop of the winter Dew Tour season, the Pantech Invitational in Killington, VT, January 19-22. The winter events kick-off in Breckenridge, CO, on December 15, and will also serve to showcase Pantech’s latest array of in-market handsets, which includes the Pantech Pocket and others.
“Pantech remains enthusiastic about the action sports community, and following an incredible series of Dew Tour stops last summer, we look forward to building on that momentum with the winter events,” remarked Erin Magee, director of channel marketing for Pantech Wireless. “Collaborating with our summer Team Pantech riders, which boasted top guys like Bucky Lasek, Ryan Decenzo, Brett Banasiewicz and Greg Lutzka, was a total highlight, and our winter athletes are equally impressive. We wish our athletes the very best this season and encourage fans to stay on top of the action by following us on social media and by using the Pantech Dew Tour Android app.”
Onsite at the Pantech Lodge, located within the Festival Village, Dew Tour attendees will have the opportunity to meet Team Pantech athletes and play an assortment of games for chances to win prizes. All photos taken at the Lodge throughout the weekend, including those of fans with pros, will be immediately available on the Pantech Facebook page. Also at the Lodge, the company will feature its rotating portfolio of phones available at AT&T. This week in Breckenridge, the Pantech Pocket, a brand new and 4G Android phone that offers unique widescreen display providing a truly richer multimedia and entertainment experience, will be on display, along with Link II, Pursuit II, and Crossover. At the January and February events, other exciting and soon-to-launch devices will be on hand, too.
The new members of Team Pantech include some of the most accomplished names in winter sports:
- Sarah Burke (Ski) – Sarah is a world-renowned freestyle skier whose long list of wins includes half-pipe titles at the U.S. Open, European Open, World Skiing Invitational and FIS World Championships. In 2007, Sarah was recognized as the first skier to win an ESPY, taking the Best Female Action Sports Athlete ESPY & BERT Award.
- Hannah Teter (Snowboard) – Hannah is a two-time Olympic medalist for half-pipe snowboarding, winning a Gold medal in 2006 and Silver in 2010. The product of a close family of snowboarders, she picked up the sport at age 8 and became the youngest member of the U.S. Snowboarding team at just 16.
- J.J. Thomas (Snowboard) – With 15 years of professional competition under his belt, J.J. continues to impress as a snowboarder. In 2002, he earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team for the Salt Lake City Winter Games, and won a bronze medal for the half-pipe. J.J. was the 2011 Dew Tour champ for the super-pipe.
- Torin Yater-Wallace (Ski) – 16 year old Torin has had a landmark 2011 in half-pipe skiing, claiming both the number one slot in his first World Cup and a silver medal at the Winter X Games. He also had a truly attention-grabbing run during last winter’s Dew Tour and was awarded Dew Tour’s Rookie of the Year Award as a result.
“I can’t wait to attack Dew Tour this winter and am excited to be a part of the mega-talented Team Pantech,” said Aspen native Torin Yater-Wallace. “Pantech phones are some of the most unique on the market and they fit my busy lifestyle well – especially Pocket with its oversized screen and slim shape. It’s perfect for helping me stay on top of my favorite TV shows, music and social media pages while I’m traveling and on the road.”
At each Dew Tour stop and throughout the course of the winter, the Pantech social media team will be providing live updates and events pictures via Facebook and Twitter. The winter Dew Tour schedule follows:
- Nike Open – Dec. 15-18 – Breckenridge, CO
